Tour Overview

Accompanied by our private local guide, Introduction to East Africa Package is the perfect way to find out more about the environment and wildlife of East Africa.
In the first Seven days that you will spend in Tanzania where you will climb the tallest mountain in Africa The Kilimanjaro via its famous Marangu Route.
The rest will be spent in Kenya where you will embark on an adventure through the scenic Rift Valley to Masai Mara Game Reserve, Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha

MOUNT KILIMANJARO HIKE VIA MARANGU ROUTE

This route features a well-trodden trail running through all the climate zones – from tropical rainforest to eternal ice, and will also will treat you to scenic African landscapes. Being the most popular and the least expensive, the route may be crowded in July-September and December – March.

A 6-day and 5-day climb programs are available, 6-day option is strongly recommended over the 5-day one for better acclimatization.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be met by our representative and transferred to your Hotel where you will be provided all the essentials for a comfortable stay.

Day 2: Marangu Gate (1,870 meters) to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters)

Trekking time: 4-6 hours, Distance covered: around 8km, Habitat: Montane forest Leave Moshi town about 0900hrs and drive for about 45 minutes to Marangu Gate on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro. Do the necessary paperwork at the park gate such as registrations. Begin hiking at about 1030hrs. Hike through rainforest from the park gate to Mandara Hut, taking about 4 hours. Stop half way for lunch. Reach Mandara Huts at about 2 or 3 PM. Unpack, rest and have some tea or coffee. Dinner is served during early evening, about 7 PM. A side trip to Maundi Crater (about 15 minutes away) is a good way to see the surroundings as well as views of Kenya and Northern Tanzania. Bathrooms are available with running water.

Day 3: Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) to Horombo Hut (3,720 meters)

Trekking time: 6-8 hours, Distance covered: around 12km, Habitat: Rainforest / Low Alpine Zone Wake to breakfast (approx. 7:30am) and pack for the next leg. Break camp at about 8:30am and hike to Horombo Huts ). You travel through lower heath land with small shrubs being the main vegetation. Stop half way for lunch. Views of Mawenzi are amazing. The summit of Kibo can be seen from Horombo Huts. Arrive Horombo Huts at about 3 PM. Rest, unpack and prepare for dinner. Bathrooms are available with running water.

Day 4: Acclimatisation Day at Horombo Hut

Horombo Huts (12,000 ft) this day you will have extra day at Horombo for acclimatization. You will get an experience and familiarize yourself to the summit weather. Overnight at Horombo Hut

Day 5:Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) to Kibo Hut (4,700 meters)

Trekking time: 5-7 hours, Distance covered: around 10km, Habitat: Low alpine zone / High alpine zone
Wake to breakfast as usual pack and begin the hike to Kibo Huts. The first half of the day’s hike traverses the upper heath land while the second half crosses the vast saddle that connects Mawenzi and Kibo. The saddle is an alpine desert that resembles a lunar landscape. Be careful to notice signs of altitude sickness. The day’s hike should take 6 to 7 hours, stopping half way for lunch. No running water at Kibo Huts.

Day 6: Kibo Hut (4,700 meters) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) and then Horombo Hut (3,720 meters)

Trekking time: 6-8 hours to the summit and then 5-8 hours to Horombo Hut, Distance covered:around 5.5km ascent and then 15km descent, Habitat: Glacial and alpine
Wake at around midnight to a light breakfast, and then prepare for the summit ascent. This part of the hike is carried out during the early morning before dawn so that the climbers reach Uhuru Peak at around sunrise. Leave at about 1:00am and reach Gilman’s Point at about 7:00am. The climbers are met with views of the crater from Gilman’s Point because it is on the Crater Rim. Another 2 hours of hiking brings the climber to Uhuru Peak (19,340 ft) at about 8:30 am. From there you will descend back to Kibo Huts, collect your things and cross the saddle again at Horombo Huts where you will spend the night. Eat dinner and get some well-deserved sleep

Day 7: Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) to Marangu Gate (1,870 meters)

Trekking time: 6-8 hours, Distance covered: around 20km, Habitat: Alpine and montane forest
Wake as usual, pack and descend to Mandara Huts. Take lunch there and continue on to the park gate where you will be met by our staff who will transport you back to Moshi. After hot shower and relaing at the hotel, successful climbers will receive their summit certificates. Dinner included.

DAY 8: Transfer to Kenya via Namanga Border

Leave Moshi/Arusha after breakfast and head to Namanga border (1-2 Hrs drive), after clearance hop into another vehicle that will take you to Nairobi. You will arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon, familiarize your self with the new city and spend your night there.

DAY 9: Nairobi - Lake Nakuru

After being picked from Nairobi by one of our safari driver/Guide, you’ll then drive to Lake Nakuru Along the safari route – there shall be stops to view interesting attractions including the Great Rift Valley escarpment. At the rift valley escarpment – you shall descend to the floors of the rift valley for a further drive through Masai country as you progress to the Nakuru. You will have a stop over in Lake Naivasha to enjoy a boat ride and a walking safari on Crescent Island.

CRESCENT ISLAND

Crescent Island Game Sanctuary is a peninsula or island on the eastern side of Lake Naivasha. This sanctuary offers the best picture square view of lake Naivasha and mount longonot volcano. Here you’ll walk with a guide in about 15 to 20 metres close to the animals with a great view. There are a lot of easy to see game e.g. giraffes, waterbucks, elands, wildebeests, zebras and impalas. It is also a heaven for birds with +200 species recorded. The lake has a lot of hippos, which you can easily spot from the island.Among the resident birds are fish eagles, ospreys, lily-trotters, black crakes and a variety of herons. Hippos also live in the lake. Then will proceed to Lake Nakuru Punda Milia camp for dinner and over night.

DAY 10: Lake Nakuru National Park

On this day, after break fast, we will leave Punda Milia camp site at 7.30am for a day trip in Lake Nakuru National Park. You will have hot lunch at Lake Nakuru lodge. Lake Nakuru National Park: Due to some progressive natural factors like increasing water levels , the flamingo numbers have been reducing  but the park itself remains  stunning – one of Kenya’s finest. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forest, waterfall, wooded hills and euphorbia trees dot the lake.The few quantity of  flamingos is accompanied by other bird life – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks as well as herons and eagles. The scene here is bountiful, busy and full of color.But that’s only the beginning of what this special park has to offer because the wildlife viewing here is easy and accessible. Lake Nakuru is known for hosting some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see rare Rothschild’s Giraffe along with white rhino, especially along the lakeshore.The park is also sanctuary to one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino. After a day spend in Lake Nakuru National Park, You will drive to lake Naivasha. Dinner and over night will be at Camp Carnellys at the shores of lake Naivasha.

DAY 11: Lake Naivasha- Hell's Gate National park

The Hell’s gate national park is one of the most iconic hiking places in the rift valley religion. The national park is situated on the southern part of Lake Naivasha, and it has numerous hiking trails that you can trek. The location is named so because of the unique rock formation and solid geothermal activity that shapes the features natural environment into something very unique.
The expansive park surrounding this hiking location is fantastic because you can see animals and exceptional vegetation. There are red-colored rock cliffs, savanna grassland, meandering gorges, and depressions. The cliffs in the park rise high, and there are multiple areas where you can climb and marvel at the beautiful creations. You will find professional rock climbers at Fischer’s gate as well as the Elsa gate. There are multiple animals that you can watch whether you are walking on foot, Cycling or enjoying a game drive. This park has featured in various films like the lion king, King Solomon’s mine, Tomb Raider by Angelina Jolie and the Kitchen toto. Most animals found here are the Impalas, Thompson gazelles, Zebras, Elands, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Warthogs, Baboons, Grand gazelles among others.

DAY 12: Lake Naivasha- Masai Mara Game Reserve( afternoon game drive)

ake up early and after breakfast we will drive to  Masai Mara through the Great Rift Valley. Proceed with the safari to Masai Mara in which will arrive on time for lunch at Zebra plains tented camp. After lunch and a short relaxation, will have an Afternoon game drive from 15 45HRS till sunset in search of the big five – Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino with other wild animals. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Mara Zebra Plains tented Camp.

DAY 13: Full day Masai Mara - Afternoon Maasai village cultural visit.

After your breakfast, leave with picnic lunch for a full day game viewing in the park including a visit to Mara river.On your way back from a full day game drive in the mara, the group will visit Masai cultural village in the late afternoon at an extra cost of 30 usd per person. Note that the money charged at a maasai village goes to support projects like building schools, water tanks, sending children to schools, protecting wild animals e.t.c Dinner and overnight will be at Mara Zebra Plains tented camp

DAY 14: Masai Mara- Nairobi or any place of your choice (End of trip).

On this day, you’ll wake up early at 6.00am, have a pre breakfast game drive in the maasai mara and returning back to Zebra plains for breakfast and packing for the drive back to Nairobi. Lunch will be enroute in Narok town on our way back to Nairobi. You will then be transfered to the Jomo Kenyata International airport for your return international flight to complete your journey
